That’s her.

Ashley Frederick (She/her) is a multi-disciplinary artist working in theatre and film.

In 2020, after graduating York University’s Devised Theatre program in the midst of a global pandemic, live-experienced events turned digital and Ashley followed suit.

Ashley is grateful for the support her work has received, and for the opportunity to tell diverse, ambitious, and impactful stories. She is based in Toronto (Tkaronto) Ontario.

Ashley’s previous life in theatre included devising, directing and stage/production management, shaping her unique creative eye and multi-lensed approach to visual storytelling.

Devised Theatre, a collaborative, non-hierarchical form of theatre making, formed her belief in creating art through instinct, group collaboration, and curiosity. She also developed the management and logistical skills needed to bring artistic works to life.

As a producer, Ashley has assisted on works including the site-specific production of THE MUSIC MAN (Talk Is Free Theatre, 2016), and developed a youth mentorship program for THE CURIOUS VOYAGE, a 3-day intercontinental theatre experience (Talk Is Free Theatre, 2018).

Recent director + devisor credits include RETROGRADE (Theatre By The Bay, Simcoe County Theatre Festival, 2022), and the devised piece ALONE, WITH YOU (Public Energy Performing Arts, 2020 season). AFTER GEORGE, her 4th year devised theatre work, premiered at York University and was remounted at The Theatre Centre in 2019 as part of YesFEST’s collection of new work.

Select stage management credits include GREEN SKIES (Theatre By The Bay, 2021), SUMMER OF SEMITISM (The Paprika Festival, 2021), and BLUE SHOW (InspiraTO, 2018); ASM credits include MNO BIMAADIZIWIN (Theatre By The Bay, 2021), DARLING OF THE DAY (Talk Is Free Theatre, 2016) and RENT (VCP, 2015).
